Orders: Resizing Data Fields

Let’s change the length of the data field text boxes to match the expected text length. Go back to the Designer, and navigate to Order Form / c100 / dv100 / editForm1 / c1 – Orders node. Right-click the node and press Show All Data Fields.

This will take you to the list of data fields. Mouse over the field Freight, click on the dropdown arrow, and press Edit.

Enter “5” in the Cols property, press Save to save the data field.

Also change the following data fields:

ShipCity 30
ShipRegion 30
ShipPostalCode 30
ShipCountry 30

Press Generate, and wait for the page to load. Start editing any order, and you will see that the data fields have been resized.

Orders: Removing Data Fields

When creating a new order, the fields ShippedDate, ShipVia, and Freight are not known. Let’s remove these fields from the createForm1 view.

Switch back to the Designer, and expand Order Form / dv100 / createForm1 / c1 – New Orders node. Delete the fields ShippedDate, ShipVia, and Freight by right-clicking and pressing Delete option in the context menu.

Press Generate and wait for the application to load. If you create a new order using the Order Form, you will see that the data fields have been removed.

Orders: Setting Default Date

When creating a new order, the order date should default to the current date.

Switch back to the Designer, and expand the Orders controller in the Explorer. Expand Fields, and double click on OrderDate.

In the Code Default property, write:

DateTime.Now

Press OK to save the field. Press Generate in the top left corner, and wait for the page to load. Navigate to Order Form, and create a new order. Select a customer and employee. You will see that the current date has been inserted into the Order Date field.
