Exclude from Menu & Include In Menu

It is not necessary for all application pages to be visible in the navigation menu. These “system” pages may be accessed by a link from another page or a redirection via the Navigate action.

Exclude From Menu

Let’s exclude the Customer Demographics page from the navigation menu.

Start the Project Designer. In the Project Explorer, right-click on Customer Demographics page node, and press Exclude From Menu.

On the toolbar, press Browse. Notice that the Customer Demographics page is no longer present in the navigation menu.

The page may still be accessed by the URL ~/Pages/CustomerDemographics.aspx.

Include in Menu

Let’s restore the page to the navigation menu. Switch back to the Project Designer. Right-click on Customer Demographics node, and press Include in Menu.

The page will be included at the end of the menu. Let’s move it back to the original position. Drop Customer Demographics node on the right side of Categories node.

On the toolbar, press Browse. The Customer Demographics navigation menu item will have been restored.

Pre-selecting Fields for Update

When a user is performing a batch edit on several fields, they must check “update” boxes next to the fields that will be updated. These boxes are unchecked by default.

Let’s change the default state of the checkboxes to be enabled when the form loads.

Start the Project Designer. In the Project Explorer, switch to the Controllers tab. Right-click on Suppliers / Business Rules and press New Business Rule.

Press OK to save. On the toolbar, press Browse.

Navigate to the Suppliers page and check the box next to several rows. Press Batch Edit (Form) option in a row context menu.

Overview of Batch Edit

The “Batch Edit” action allows users to change field values of multiple records at the same time. In order for the action to work properly, multiple selection must be enabled.

Inline Batch Edit

To perform a batch edit, first check the boxes next to several rows in a grid. Using the context menu, click on the “Batch Edit” action.

Check the box underneath the field that you want to update and enter a new value.

Press the Update Selection button to save the value. All rows that were checked will be updated.

Form Batch Edit

Batch edit can also be performed in the form. Check the boxes next to the rows to update. Use the context menu to select Batch Edit (Form) action.

Again, check the boxes under the field that will be updated, and insert a value.

Press Update Selection button. The field values will be updated for the checked rows.

Enabling Batch Edit for a Single Controller

Batch editing is not enabled by default in Code On Time web applications. For example, the Suppliers controller does not have the action available.

Let’s enable batch edit for the Suppliers controller.

Start the web application generator. Click on the project name, and select Settings. Click on Features.

Make the following changes:

Enable batch editing in all data controllers… true

Press Finish to skip to the Summary page. Click Refresh, and check the box next to Suppliers controller. Continue to regenerate the web application.

When the web application is loaded in your browser, navigate to the Suppliers page. The Batch Edit options will be available in the row context menu.

Suppliers now has the 'Batch Edit' command.
