Using My Own Folder For Code On Time Files

Q. How can I change the working directory for a project generated by CodeOnTime?

Code OnTime Generator uses [My Documents]\Code OnTime folder to install the code generation library templates. The same folder is used to create code generation projects.

Download the file at /documents/codeontime.exe.zip.

The archive contains CodeOnTime.exe.config file. The contents of the file are listed below:

    </configSections>
    <applicationSettings>
        <CodeOnTime.Properties.Settings>
            <setting name="MyDocuments" serializeAs="String">
                <value>c:\Code OnTime Root</value>
            </setting>
        </CodeOnTime.Properties.Settings>
    </applicationSettings>
</configuration>

Unzip and copy the attached file to the [Program Files]\Code OnTime LLC\Code OnTime Generator folder.

Create a folder on your local hard drive and replace "c:\Code OnTime Root" in the CodeOnTime.exe.config with the path to your folder. The generator will start using this folder instead of [My Documents], when you restart the program.

Hiding Lookup Details Shortcut

Q. How can I hide the "arrow in circle" icon in a grid, create form and edit form, so that, a user cannot go to the detail page. Ideally, I would like to see this controlled by a role. How can I accomplish this with Code OnTime Designer?

There is no role-based control for the lookup details shortcut (object reference) icon. Two object references are visible in the picture below.

You can “hide” the shortcuts as follows.

1. Create file StyleSheet1.css under ~/App_Themes/[Namespace] folder of your project where [Namespace] is the name of the folder with _Layout.skin file. The name of the file is arbitrary.

2. Open the CSS file in Visual Studio or Notepad and enter the following text:

span.ObjectRef
{
    display:none;
}

This will ensure that all object references in your application are hidden.

You can also hide object references on specific pages only.

For example, if you have a page ~/Pages/Products.aspx then you can hide object references on this page only if you CSS rule is defined as follows:

.pages_products_aspx span.ObjectRef
{
    display:none;
}

Configuring Mail Settings

Q. Can you tell me in which component, file, etc is it that I configure the mail host that should be used to send out the password reminders.

You can configure mail settings of your application as follows:

Run Code OnTime Generator and select your project.
Click Next button a few times until your reach Web Server page in the project wizard.
Paste the text from the sample below into Web.Config modification instructions field. Make sure to use your own SMTP server settings as values.
Generate your project. The section system.net will be integrated into Web.Config file of your project whenever you generate the project next time.

InsertAfter: /configuration/connectionStrings
<system.net>
    <mailSettings>
      <smtp deliveryMethod="Network" from="ben@contoso.com">
        <network
          host="localhost"
          port="25"
          defaultCredentials="true"
        />
      </smtp>
    </mailSettings>
</system.net>

Note that InsertAfter instruction will insert the XML snippet just after the connectionStrings section in Web.Config configuration file of your application.
